This is the heart-warming true story
of an ordinary woman in the Bible
who had a broken heart
and decided to pray about her problem.

3 - Honoured by God

1 Samuel 1
1. This is the story of Elkanah, a man of the tribe of Ephraim who lived in Ramathaim-zophim, in the hills of Ephraim. His father's name was Jeroham, His grandfather was Elihu, His great-grandfather was Tohu, His great-great-grandfather was Zuph.
2. He had two wives, Hannah and Peninnah. Peninnah had some children, but Hannah didn't.
3. Each year Elkanah and his families journeyed to the Tabernacle at Shiloh to worship the Lord of the heavens and to sacrifice to him. (The priests on duty at that time were the two sons of Eli - Hophni and Phinehas.)
4. On the day he presented his sacrifice, Elkanah would celebrate the happy occasion by giving presents to Peninnah and her children;
5. but although he loved Hannah very much, he could give her only one present, for the Lord had sealed her womb; so she had no children to give presents to.
6. Peninnah made matters worse by taunting Hannah because of her barrenness.
7. Every year it was the same - Peninnah scoffing and laughing at her as they went to Shiloh, making her cry so much she couldn't eat.
LB

This is not only the history of Elkanah, but more particularly, it is the history of Hannah, a woman who combined principles two and three of the Lord's prayer and received miracles from God as a result.

During the course of human history, God has honoured many women of faith by giving them children which it would have been impossible for them to have apart from the intervention of God.
These women include:    Sarah, wife of Abraham - Genesis chapters 17, 18, 21;
   Rachel, wife of Jacob - Genesis chapters 39, 30;
   Elizabeth, mother of John the Baptist - Luke chapter 1;
   and here Hannah, mother of the prophet Samuel - I Samuel chapters 1 & 2.

You may not have the same problem that these women of faith had, but maybe there is something that makes your life miserable and over which you cry as Hannah did. If so, you can commit this pain and it's cure to God today.

To develop a successful prayer life, I need to say to myself and God regularly, how good He is to me!

Prayer:
Father, today I put my pain into Your hands, because I know that only You can bring a resolution to this problem.
Please resolve this situation in Your own way and at the right time.
I am committed to Your will for my life,
in Jesus' name,
Amen.

Matthew 6
6. But when you pray, go away by yourself, all alone, and shut the door behind you and pray to your Father secretly, and your Father, who knows your secrets, will reward you.
7. "Don't recite the same prayer over and over as the heathen do, who think prayers are answered only by repeating them again and again. Remember, your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him!
9. "Pray along these lines: 'Our Father in heaven, we honor your holy name.
10. We ask that your kingdom will come now. May your will be done here on earth, just as it is in heaven.
11. Give us our food again today, as usual,
12. and forgive us our sins, just as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us.
13. Don't bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the Evil One.
Amen.'
14. Your heavenly Father will forgive you if you forgive those who sin against you; but if you refuse to forgive them, he will not forgive you.

Principle 1:     proclaiming WHO God is
Principle 2:    praying about God's business
