This is the heart-warming true story
of an ordinary woman in the Bible
who had a broken heart
and decided to pray about her problem.

1 - Principle 1

Matthew 6
6. But when you pray, go away by yourself, all alone, and shut the door behind you and pray to your Father secretly, and your Father, who knows your secrets, will reward you.
7. "Don't recite the same prayer over and over as the heathen do, who think prayers are answered only by repeating them again and again. Remember, your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him!
9. "Pray along these lines: 'Our Father in heaven, we honor your holy name.
10. We ask that your kingdom will come now. May your will be done here on earth, just as it is in heaven.
11. Give us our food again today, as usual,
12. and forgive us our sins, just as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us.
13. Don't bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the Evil One.
Amen.'
14. Your heavenly Father will forgive you if you forgive those who sin against you; but if you refuse to forgive them, he will not forgive you.

These are the prayer instructions Jesus gave, which many of us call the Lord's prayer. The overall pattern in the prayer is this:

verse 9:     proclaiming WHO God is - Principle 1
verse 10:    praying about God's business - Principle 2
verses 11 - 13:  praying about our own concerns - Principle 3

First, we must proclaim WHO it is we are praying to.
This is for our own good. We need to remind ourselves each time we come to our Father, what a mighty, glorious, merciful and just God is over our lives.

Psalm 34 puts it this way:
1. I will praise the Lord no matter what happens.
I will constantly speak of his glories and grace.
2. I will boast of all his kindness to me.
Let all who are discouraged take heart.
3. Let us praise the Lord together, and exalt his name.
4. For I cried to him and he answered me!
He freed me from all my fears.
5. Others too were radiant at what he did for them.
Theirs was no downcast look of rejection!
6. This poor man cried to the Lord -
and the Lord heard him and saved him out of his troubles.
7. For the Angel of the Lord guards and rescues all who reverence him.
8. Oh, put God to the test and see how kind he is! See for yourself the way his mercies shower down on all who trust in him.   (LB)

To develop a successful prayer life,
I need to say to myself and God regularly, how good He is to me!

Prayer:
Father, You are such a mighty, glorious, merciful and just God.
I am overwhelmed by your love for me and Your great care of me.
You have been so good to me, Lord and I praise You with all my heart, soul, mind and strength today,
in Jesus' name,
Amen.
